Abstract

Streptococcus pyogenes caused different illnesses, including pharyngitis and dermatological infections. The exploration of natural substances prompt alternative therapies. The leaves of Water Apple Leaves (Syzygium malaccense) are recognized for their bioactive ingredients, which may serve as antibacterial agents. The scientific investigations into the antibacterial efficacy of water apple leaves against Streptococcus pyogenes remain scarce, rendering this research essential.

This study purpose was to determine the antibacterial potential of ethanol extract and acetone fraction of Syzygium malaccense against Streptococcus pyogenes infection.

This research was a lab experiment, a post-test only with control group design. Assessing growth inhibition by measuring the diameter of halo around the well of blood agar plate. Amoxicillin as a positive control and DMSO as a negative control, the concentrations of the ethanol extract and guava leaf acetone fractions were 6.25%, 12.5%, 25%, and 50%. Statistical tests using the Sapiro-Wilk test, Lavene test, Kruskal- Wals test and Mann-Whitney test.
